A knife for hard work
TheKershaw Camp 5 1083 has a full-tang (full shank)construction , which means it is made from a single piece of steel. Knives with such a construction are extremely resistant to damage and are not afraid of hard work, which is why they are commonly used by survival and bushcraft enthusiasts, as well as hunters and soldiers.
Theknife is cut from hard D2 carbon steel, which cuts very aggressively, has high wear and abrasion resistance and long working sharpness, so it will be perfect even as an outdoor tool.
Highly hardened D2 steel, despite being a carbon steel, also has high corrosion resistance, thanks to its increased chromium content and vanadium admixture.
When choosing a knife made of such steel, it is worth getting a diamond sharpener, as sharpening with a standard ceramic whetstone can be very labor-intensive and inefficient.
The head with a typically working clip-point profile has an optimal length of 122 mm and a thickness of as much as 5 mm, so the knife will be useful for both meal preparation and wood batoning. Transverse frets have been made on a section of the back, providing a solid point of support for the thumb.
The blade has a flat grind, which provides an excellent compromise between durability and smoothness of cutting. The blade has a very practical so-called stonewashed finish, which is done by bathing the blade in gravel or small abrasive stones.
The resulting irregular texture masks scratches and abrasions from use very well.
Comfortable grip
The facings attached to the bolt with steel screws are made of tough FRN, or fiberglass-reinforced nylon. The contoured shape of the grip and the checkered texturing make the knife very stable in the hand and comfortable to use.
Polymer scabbard
The set comes with a sturdy polymer sheath, made by injection molding. The sheath can be worn at the waist, attached to the armor, and with the use of additional straps (not included) can be comfortably stabilized on the thigh. A metal clasp fastener protects the tool from slipping out or being lost.
